Progress from a Red Trained Operator Card to a Blue Competent Operator Card
Already hold a Red Trained Operator Card? Completing the relevant Level 2 Plant Operations NVQ is the key step towards applying for a Blue Competent Operator Card under the relevant card scheme.
A Blue Competent Operator Card demonstrates that you have been independently assessed as competent to carry out your role safely and professionally. It is widely recognised across the construction industry and can help improve your employment opportunities, meet site requirements and support your long-term career progression.
Once issued, a Blue Competent Operator Card is typically valid for 5 years. When it approaches expiry, you can normally renew it by meeting the relevant card scheme’s renewal requirements, including completing the appropriate Health, Safety & Environment Test where applicable.
You do not normally need to complete another NVQ to renew your Blue Card. At McGhee Training Group, we assess Level 2 Plant Operations NVQs for all major items of plant machinery, helping experienced operators across Scotland progress from a Red Card to a Blue Competent Operator Card with flexible workplace-based assessments.
